About Premier Skills

Premier Skills is an exciting partnership between the Premier League and the British Council that is delivering community sports development around the world.

In countries around the world Premier League coaches are delivering training that will help Premier Skills participants become multi-skilled community coaches and help develop their own communities.

In addition, Premier Skills provides a range of resources for learners and teachers of English.

Premier Skills in CameroonIn September 2009 Premier Skills launched its eighth project in Africa with a weeklong visit to the capital city of Cameroon, Yaounde.

Head coach Robbie Earle was joined by coaches from Fulham and Wolverhampton Wanderers as well as a TV crew from Sky Sports News.

Premier Skills in UgandaIn September 2008 Premier Skills visited Kampala in Uganda. Head coach Warren Barton was joined by Liam Readowcamp from Everton, West Ham's Jerome John, and Reading's Paul Hughes.

Premier Skills in DalianPremier Skills launched the first of four China based projects in the city of Dalian in China in May 2009.

The Dalian project was run in conjunction with the Dalian Education Bureau and with the support of the local Football Association.

 

 

Premier Skills in BotswanaIn this video you can watch and listen to coaches and participants from the Premier Skills project in Gaborone, Botswana.

The course was led by Robbie Earle, with support from Portsmouth community coaches Aaron Lee and Alexander Colley, and Victor Betinelli, Fulham FC Goalkeeper Academy Coach. The participants were all coaches who were working in the community with children.

Former Premier League stars Robbie Earle and Warren Barton are the lead coaches on Premier Skills and have been involved in every project since the first pilot in Cairo. Since then, hundreds of coaches have benefited from the courses and many have gone on to greater things. Early monitoring from the face to face courses so far has been hugely promising with many participants who have been brought back together for further training having subsequently found new paid employment in coaching at club, school or community levels. Here Robbie talks about what Premier Skills means for the participants.
